Y-12 Sentencings: Letters and Donations Needed!

Dear friends,

It’s been a little over a year since we were together at the Resistance for a Nuclear-free Future gathering in Tennessee.  We have some news to share as well as 2 requests: one for funds to support the resisters in prison, and another for you to write letters to the judge who will soon be sentencing 11 of the 13 friends who crossed onto Y-12 on July 5, 2010.

Some of you already have heard the very sad news that one of the 13, Sr. Jackie Hudson, died a month ago.  She became very ill at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia, where she and others were awaiting sentencing after being found guilty at their  May trial.  When Jackie was released from custody, she and partner Sue Ablao returned to their home at the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action.  Jackie was later diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and passed away on August 3.  She will be deeply missed, and in her memory we will continue the struggle for a nuclear-free world.

You can read beautiful tributes to Jackie at http://www.nukeresister.org/2011/08/15/jackie-hudson-presente/ and

Sue, who had been receiving donations in support of the imprisoned members of the Disarm Now Plowshares, began in May to accept donations to support the Y-12 prisoners as well. Donations can be sent in Jackie’s memory to the Resisters’ and Prisoners’ Support Fund or Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action – please specify which in the memo line of a check or money order and make payable to Ground Zero (19159 Clear Creek Rd. NW, Poulsbo, WA 98370).

Due to illness, David Corcoran has had his trial postponed until November 14.  Please keep David and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

A trial report from Ralph Hutchison (OREPA) can be found at http://orepa.org/y12-resisters-trial-ends-in-guilty-verdict/

Please read the previous blog posting to write to Judge Guyton, by Leonard Eiger with the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action. There you will find an open letter to the judge written by Anabel Dwyer.
